Scared Mayan Fire Ceremony

Recently, during my trip to Guatemala, I had a life-changing experience that I will never forget. I had arranged a Mayan fire ceremony with a shaman named Alex, and we met as we strolled along a highway in Panajachel, overlooking Lake Atitlán. Along the way, we paused at a local shop connected to the back of a woman's home, where we purchased four eggs before continuing our journey.

I would later discover, quite surprisingly, that these eggs were intended for the altar, which we would eventually set ablaze and they would explode, one by one.

We spent over an hour and a half in the cave, and as I emerged covered in soot and a few leaves from a medicinal tree branch, I felt lighter and more open to positive energies and emotions. I gained a deeper appreciation for the land that supports us. Just as the Mayans continue to honor the earth today, it felt wonderful to be a part of it, even if just for a few hours.
